Furneaux Lodge - Jewel of the Sounds

Dining

The Furneaux Bar and Deck

The legendary bar at Furneaux Lodge is an icon in Marlborough and has been the most popular place to stop in for a drink in Queen Charlotte Sound for three decades. The Furneaux Bar embodies the spirit of the sounds as a venue for quality casual dining and socialising in a premium yet egalitarian environment. It's a special place where local boaties, sailors, lodge guests and the Sounds community come together.

The bar is cosy and comfortable, having been completely renovated to the style of the original interior of the lodge when Captain Howden built it. Furneaux Lodge combines the tradition and relaxing environment of the lodge with great food and modern amenities to give you a unique and memorable night out.

The menu in the bar has a well earned reputation for serving fresh, tasty and satisfying meals to travellers for decades. Choose from a wide selection of local seafood dishes, gourmet burgers and delicious steaks, or try the classic Furneaux fish and chips which was the most popular choice for over 2000 visitors last season. Lighter options are also available.

The wine list is more extensive and carefully crafted than ever, with a range of local Marlborough wines complemented by regional specialities from Otago, Hawkes Bay and Australia.

If you are coming by boat we monitor VHF 63 - give us a call and we will allocate a mooring and be right out to pick you up in Bluey, the lodge tender.

The Howden Room Restaurant

The Howden Room restaurant at Furneaux Lodge serves fresh, seasonal cuisine 7 days a week from mid October till 1st May each year. Offering outstanding service, award-winning cuisine and stunning surroundings, it is the perfect choice for Marlborough Sounds Dining.
